UF and Oak Hammock:
Partners in Health
Designed in concert with UF's College of Health and Human Performance, the Fitness Center at Oak Hammock was developed with extensive input from University staff.
Thanks to our relationship with the University of Florida, our programs go well beyond exercise to a comprehensive package for preventive health. Community members take part in extensive health appraisals that analyze factors such as diet, exercise, smoking, cholesterol levels and stress. Based on that information, fitness programs can be customized to meet individual needs. The Fitness Center also provides a Cardiac Rehabilitation Program and a Lower Back Program, among others.
Yet another perk: UF students, who have undergraduate degrees in exercise and sports sciences with concentrations in clinical exercise physiology, assist members with individual exercise and personal fitness plans. These interns also help perform regular Functional Fitness Assessments, which evaluate members' physical, emotional and social conditions. By providing an assessment of health factors such as body mass index, balance, stamina and emotional well-being, members can make informed decisions about their lifestyles and independence.
