Valerie Griffith began the Recycled Riches Program at Oak Hammock over 15 years ago. Recycled Riches was created for residents to resell the belongings they no longer need to staff members at a lower cost.
One of the most recent challenges discovered is the price of gasoline. “Four dollars became a price where some staff members weren’t willing to come to work,” says Kenneth Curry, a transportation employee for Oak Hammock.
After hearing about this struggle, residents gathered and raised enough funds to supply 237 staff members with two rounds of gas cards (first $25 and then $50). “We want to ensure our staff knows they are appreciated for their hard work,” Griffith relayed to WCJB.
Oak Hammock and the recycled riches program members plan to have more staff appreciation events this summer.
