The Art League of Oak Hammock, or ALAOH, is dedicated to enriching the lives of Oak Hammock residents by fostering creativity, engagement and appreciation of the fine arts. ALAOH offers opportunities to create and exhibit artwork, develop artistic skills through classes, workshops and demonstrations and to connect with accomplished artists through programs and tours. Members also enjoy visits to regional museums and galleries.
Oak Hammock at the University of Florida is home to a number of professional artists, as well as many talented hobbyists—some of whom discovered their artistic passions here. An even larger group of residents actively supports and appreciates the arts, contributing to a vibrant and creative community.
Art League Activities
Monthly Programs
ALAOH hosts monthly presentations featuring talks and demonstrations by Oak Hammock residents, as well as regional and occasionally internationally recognized artists. Topics include art appreciation, art history and other engaging subjects—often enhanced by films highlighting renowned artists.
Art Classes and Workshops
Depending on resident interest and instructor availability, ALAOH offers a variety of featured classes and workshops in watercolor, acrylics, drawing, oil painting, colored pencil, collage and other artistic techniques.
Art Shows & Exhibits at Oak Hammock
The Oak Hammock Art Gallery features quarterly exhibitions showcasing the work of both resident and visiting local artists. Some shows are juried, with awards presented at an opening reception. In addition, the Oak Hammock Art Studio highlights an artist of the month, providing residents an opportunity to present a solo show and host a reception celebrating their work.
Open Portrait Studio
This group meets twice a month to practice drawing and painting from live models—fellow Oak Hammock residents—in an informal, non-instructional setting. Conducted in partnership with the Gainesville Fine Art Association, the group culminates each year with its own exhibition and reception in the Oak Hammock Art Studio.
