Staff scheduling can often feel like solving a complex, ever-changing puzzle. For Amanda Foshee, assisted living scheduling coordinator at Oak Hammock, it’s a challenge she embraces daily. But unlike a typical jigsaw puzzle, the one she pieces together has real-life impact—determining how to best staff our Health Pavilion to care for our most vulnerable residents.
With a calm and confident presence, Foshee tackles her responsibilities with determination and grace. She manages the schedules of approximately 30 nurses and 60 certified nursing assistants, or CNAs, ensuring resident needs are met efficiently and compassionately. On top of that, she attentively listens to specific requests from residents, working to accommodate them whenever possible.
Staffing challenges often arise—unexpected callouts or schedule conflicts can leave gaps that must be filled quickly. Foshee jumps into action, collaborating across departments and even reaching out to outside staffing agencies when needed. Yet, more often than not, Oak Hammock’s dedicated team steps up to support one another.
“The staff is always great at working together and pulling through as a team,” Foshee said.
Her leadership and calmness under pressure are widely respected. Michelle Parker, director of nursing, shared, “I can’t say enough about how dedicated Amanda is. She works tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure we have the right staff in place to care for our residents and stay compliant. What really stands out is how much she cares—she listens, accommodates and always remains patient and professional. We’re truly lucky to have her.”
In addition to coordinating staffing, Foshee is responsible for reporting staffing levels to ensure compliance with regulatory standards—an important part of Oak Hammock’s strong healthcare ratings.
Foshee’s path to this role is as diverse as it is inspiring. Originally from Chiefland, Florida, she has worked in fields ranging from plumbing to bartending and later earned her CNA license. She joined Oak Hammock over four years ago, bringing with her a deep sense of responsibility and a strong work ethic learned early in life.
“I grew up watching my mom work three jobs and taking care of my father, who had back issues,” she recalled. “Helping him inspired me to pursue caregiving.”
Foshee and her husband, Roy Foshee III, have two sons—Roy IV (24) and Colton (13), whom they adopted from her brother. Colton brings energy to their lives with his love for four-wheelers and mud bogging. They are also proud grandparents to little Roy Foshee V, who recently attended his first Chicago Cubs game with the family.
Recently, Foshee reflected on her role at Oak Hammock:
What do you like most about your job?
I work well under pressure. I’m so proud of the teamwork we have here, which is important as we all work closely together.
I love taking care of people and making sure they get the support and assistance they need and deserve. I do miss the daily interactions with the residents but try to stop by a visit as often as possible. If there is a problem with a resident, we take care of their issues right away.
How do you apply We Care values to what you do?
The WeCare themes of welcoming, exceptional, courteous, attentive, responsive and empathetic describe what we do every day. I try to treat everyone—staff and residents—with the kindness and respect I’d want myself. I show empathy when staff need time off or face personal challenges, and I do my best to adjust and accommodate. Communication is key, especially with new hires or special resident requests.
I was delighted when the WeCare program was established, because it helped set parameters for team members to follow. I believe it helped us all step up to meet those daily requirements.
I’m proud of Oak Hammock’s consistent high marks for staffing and am passionate about making a meaningful difference every day.
Please share a story you have about a positive experience with a resident or co-worker.
What sticks out the most is when my mother was diagnosed with cancer. I was new to Oak Hammock. My teammates pulled together, helped me and supported me throughout that journey. They made me feel as though I was not alone, and I will be forever grateful.
What would people be surprised to learn about you?
I was a member of the Moose Lodge, which is where I met my husband. I once took second place in a women’s state pool tournament and first in a cornhole competition with my father-in-law. I love to cook, and I’ve won several local barbecue competitions in Chiefland.
Our family weekends are often spent outdoors—fishing, barbecuing and making memories with family at our own gathering pavilion.
My future goals are to enroll in nursing school to achieve my licensed practical nursing, or LPN, certificate and maybe one day my registered nursing, or RN, license.
