The Women’s Bible Study meets the first Wednesday of each month in the Acorn Room from 10:30 a.m. to noon, September through June. The group gathers early for refreshments and fellowship and begins class with devotions, followed by a video lesson and discussion time. The class closes with prayer. The present leader is the Rev. Ruth Hicks.
The Women’s Bible Study is open to all women who wish to know more about scripture and to grow in faith through study and discussion. Many denominations and churches are represented.
HISTORY
The Women’s Bible Study began many years ago as a Presbyterian Women’s Circle led by Mary Adams-Smith, better known as Andy. They used the Horizon’s Study. Over the years, others wanted to join the group, and it became the Women’s Bible Study. Andy passed leadership to Lori Hoopes in 2019 who lead until the 2025 study year when Ruth Hicks became the leader.
The lists of studies during Lori’s leadership shows the level of interest in studying the bible. They have studied 1st Peter, Mathew’s Sermon on the Mount, Hebrews, 1, 2, and 3 John, and Revelation. The study changes each year or two and is based on a Lifeway Study led by Jen Wilkins. For 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 the topic will be the Book of Genesis.
Each Women’s Bible Study class is graced with a stained-glass cross made by and for Ron Schoenau’s wife, which he donated to the Women’s Bible Study at her death.
