The Oak Hammock Community Gardens have been part of our campus since the beginning. The first wooden beds went in 21 years ago–and grew to 58 beds. Over time, the wood rotted, creating safety hazards, so in 2025 an $89,000 renovation was completed.
Now there are 64 new garden beds made from a durable mix of cement and mineralized wood, with aluminum fittings and TimberTech rails. They are designed to last at least 25 years with no rot and no splinters. Each plot was filled with new dirt and provided with a source of water and an appropriate hose.
In addition to the garden plots, the gardens have furniture and associated buildings with tools, a green house and bonsai cages.
